According to the owner's inspection and maintenance manual, you change them during Inspection I. But, if you drive in dusty conditions you should change them sooner. I would suggest just to pull them out and look at them. They are under the hood. About a 5 minute job. If they are not dirty just put them back in. There is a little clip on the end. Be careful it will break when you put them back in, if you get it crooked. Although they will stay in without it. They are kind of like the engine air filter, but more like a respirator filter you might wear at work. If you work around chemical, dust or other hazards.

Is there any symptom that tells you that they need changing asap?
