Mine got stuck like you are describing and I had to twist it to get it to come on out. I got hold of it with channel locks to twist. Once it twisted it came lose. I am like David, I don't think you can hurt anything. Try twisting and pulling hard. If I had to cut it I would be real careful about anything the might fall down in the oil passage way. Good luck.

I'm changing the oil in my wife's 740 and the oil filter won't come out of the canister. I've done this many times in both hers and my 540 but the (*&^$$^ thing is stuck and if I try to pry too vigorusly it will tear and then I'm really in a fix. Any suggestions?
