Ever notice small orange brown spots on your car? (archive)

With the nice weather here in the Boston area I've finally been able to do some real hand washing. I started noticing these small orange spots on the lower half of the doors and the trunk that looked a whole lot like rust. I thought "this car is only 5 years old - can't be rust". Well after talking to a local detailer (who steam-cleaned my engine compartment) I know what it is finally. It *is* rust, but not in the traditional sense. It's small metallic particles of brake pad/rotor that stick to the car's body during serious braking (Oh SHIT - that's a cop up there kind of braking :-).

I took his advice and picked up a bar of detailer's clay. Just mist the area lightly and rub with the clay bar. The spots vanish ! Finish with your favorite wax (Zymol in my case) and it looks great.

Hope this helps y'all - it's been puzzling me for some time now.
