Primary difference is overall length (about 5" difference) and room for passengers in rear seat.

If you don't need the rear seat room, take the smaller car...easier to park and handle in tight spaces. Rear seat even of the short i is very comfortable.

On the other hand, if you frequently have rear passengers or are greatly concerned about their comfort (clients, etc), the iL gives them limo-like space.

In my case (i), the back seat is vacant 95% of the time, and then it usually children. Only rarely are adults back there, and even in the "short" car, they are extremely comfortable. I'd have no advantage from an iL, and I'd have a bigger car to deal with all the time.
