I like the Monochromatic look personally. If you noticed that may of the cars today are going with this look. Your most obvious and relevent is the 740 sport. The original idea behind the black bumper and door trim was to serve as economical "bumps and bruises" protection. For instance, incedental bumper taps, door taps, etc.

If you really want to go with this look, I suggest that you buy the unpainted but primed trim that is meant for the 740 sport. The whole setup can be had for around $700. You dont even need to leave your car at the body shop for this, because the parts can be color-matched and you can put them on yourself when they are painted and done. If you dont live in California, call pacific BMW, they have a great out-of-state mail order price for everything.

Personally I do not think this would look right, since the original design was proportioned for bright work or shadow trims around the glass. If the E65 eliminates this they will have added other shadow lines on the body work to accent the glass edges etc...

If you decide to go for it, the bright work would need to be stripped of clear coat, and the aliminum surfaces chemically etched to allow the paint to adhere to it. If not the paint will simply crack and peel.
