Xenon lamps are the absolute BEST for night time vision. I've had them on two cars now and the difference between xenon and halogen are like night and day (pun intended). I would be skeptical about switching out on your car though unless they were absolutely BMW originals that you are getting. Xenons have auto-balancing as well. And yes, they are low beam only. My CL500 has bi-xenons and I must say the high beams are wonderful. It is truly like daytime ahead of me when I put the high beams on.

I have a possibility to change ordinary front lights to Xenon lights for 600$ and need an advice. The lights are original BMW lights (the seller told me so) and they look the same just there is additional metal box on each lamp (I think it is ballast). All connectors also the same and we tried to connect them. It works but I was a little bit confused that in fact only low beam light is xenon light. Should it be so on original installation of BMW E38 xenon lights? Also after while board computer says, “Check lower beam lights”. So, question is if it worth and if it is really so simple to change them?
Any information will be very appreciated. Thanks.
