John,

I have a 96 750iL which I purchased in February of 1999 with 28,000 miles (now at 53,000). My car has had only a few problems most of which were covered under warranty. These include rear seat motors not functioning, replacement of sunroof mechanism, and rear tail lens covers replaced. I also had a few problems with the check engine light which took a while to figure out.

My only upgrade was the switch to 18 inch M-Parallel wheels with Yokohama AVS Sport Tires. The standard 16 inch wheels looked terrible and the Conti tires had way too much body roll for my taste.

The 750iL is a great car but keep mind that maintenance is the key to a good long lasting engine. Especially on a 1996, which excludes you from an extended warranty (unless the one you are looking at comes with one), make sure all records are present. Engine problems can be quite expensive on this engine. My friend had a 850CSI which had a serious oil leak that lead to engine damage. He was lucky to be under warranty the total bill was well over $10,000 just for head work alone.

thx for the info. i am looking at several cars now and havent made up my mind on a v8 or v12 model. are there any other sites out there beside this one that has maintainace costs on these engines? also i think the both have the same transmission, does the torque of the v12 overwhelm the trans? thanks for the help.
adios, john
