You are exactly right! But the dealer said that the valve covers were leaking anyway and should have been repaired, that the alternator was weak, etc... Not to mention there were not fault codes.

Total repairs were $1,600 ($600 Valve cover, new spark plugs,$0 for the DME which they replaced, but then put my old one back in, $600+ for alternator and battery, $250+ diagonstic for independent shop, and $150 for the thermostat and waterpump I replaced.

Do you think I should ask for any money back from my dealer? Any chance of that happening?
