I have the '01 sport. I understood that the coating was there for the automatic rain detector. But in any event, I have a Bell radar detector suction-cupped to the windshield. I can tell you that it still picks up the X and K bands, but whether its sensitivity has been diminished is very hard to say.


The front windshield on the 740 has some special coating to prevent heat from coming into the car. It appears to interfere with certain radio waves. My garage door opener works just fine, but my tolltag (alloews you to pay tolls automatically by charging them to your credit card) doesn't work unless I put it in the "clear" spot. (Just under the rearview mirror or in the center on the bottom of windshield). I wonder if I'm going to have a similar problem with a radar detector. Does anyone have experience with radar dectors in new 7-series?
