I had the same problem with the e-z pass tag. So I got the external one and have it mounted on the front license plate - works great.

I use the passport 8500.... Center bottom of windshield has a clear area of app. 4 x 4 inches….. just for such purpose.

The front windshield on the 740 has some special coating to prevent heat from coming into the car. It appears to interfere with certain radio waves. My garage door opener works just fine, but my tolltag (alloews you to pay tolls automatically by charging them to your credit card) doesn't work unless I put it in the "clear" spot. (Just under the rearview mirror or in the center on the bottom of windshield). I wonder if I'm going to have a similar problem with a radar detector. Does anyone have experience with radar dectors in new 7-series?
