In my opinion though the 3 series does have "IT" for what it is supposed to be.
One last word - What's up with the tacked on trunk? (boot for you Brits)? Looks like someone said... "MMMM I like the new S430 rear but I have to make it look a little different... yeah that's it, tack on a trunk!)
Ya know - I blame it all on Microsoft, AutoCAD and the advent of parts liblaries and cut and paste! :)
I was staring into the parking lot yesterday when I spied an old E32, you know, the 7-Series from the early eighties. Slab sided, large greenhouse, upright, light looking. I knew they had the big sixes in them, and a lot had sticks. Damned thing was instantly recognizable as a BMW, and fairly screamed "understated, sensible, intelligent, performance". And isn't that what we're all after?
Ah, the old days for BMW. Back when you claim the entire product line was "The Ultimate Driving Machine". What went wrong?
Sorry, but the new 7 series (and 5 for that matter) look like tanks. Huge butts, goofy headlights, and absolutely silly dashboard and control layout, and a lot of unnecessary junk that's only going to make fixing them all the more expensive. I can't wait to see somebody try to jumpstart a 42 volt battery. Also, what happens when my kid reaches over to turn down the A/C and puts the car into "Park"? And a 6.0 liter V-12, c'mon! These things are starting to sound like Cadillac Eldorados with all their silly excess ("Dial-O-Matic gearshift - you can have it gold-plated too!).
Sorry BMW, but my next big sedan is gonna be an Audi. Reasonably sized, decent engine, normal "analog" dash, and a Steptronic.
