Is it possible to just put in straight pipe, just as long as it is the same length. Does this not alter anything in the computer or the way the car runs? I don't have to do emissions so that is why i am asking the question, just in case i had to replace the cats on a 97il. Or could you knock out the honeycomb on the defective cats and then put them back on the car? or will this alter the way it performs. Thanks
Thanks John for your response about defective cats. The cats have been replaced by a pair of straight through silencers of same dimensions as the cats taken off so as not to alter the expansion distance from the exhaust ports to where the original cats commenced to open out.The rattle appears to be coming from further forward on the left side.I intend to have closer look at power steering pump pulley and tentioner.Very little pressure is required to deflect tention roller at the moment.
