In Reply to: Exhaust Pipes... Why do you like them? posted by Tamas '95 750i OrientBlau on June 26, 2001 at 16:34:57:

Aftermarket exhausts are less restrictive. Aftermarket exhaust buyers are wanting to push the performance envelop of their sports cars. Yes some have a hard time believing the 7 series is a sports car, it it is non the less. Anyway when you buy a Supersprint, Scorpion, ACS, RD, MK motorsport, Dinan, and 15 others, you get tips as part of the deal. I suppose you could special order or cut off the tips but as sports car enthousiasts, its just the look were desiring. Maintaining Q car status in the US isn't generally a high priority with our ego's. Besides, when you see 50 7 series like yours it's nice to be odd. Tips give the car the aggressive look most of us enjoy. If we wanted passive presence there are plenty of plain wrapper sedans out there. Bimmer owners are anything but passive. Who else drops the kinds of money we do on cars which depreciate so rapidly. But have you seen the W220 S600. It's not exactly hiding those stock quad tips either.

Guy

Why do you guys like 3rd party exhaust pipes ?
The E38 is the only car I know with hidden exhaust, and imho it is elegant, and beautiful.
I think chrome pipes give the car a very cheap feeling.
It is my opinion only, and sorry for that.
