The 95' E38 had engine problems, but if you find one that had it replaced you're in good shape, since the replacement block is made of a different material. See www.530i.org for more info on this.

96' and newer E38 has a block made of a different material, no problems.

Haven't heard about tranny problems in any years.


I am looking for a used 740I, but I heard the engine has problems. Which year should I stay out of? Also, I heard a lot of tranny problem too. Is that true? Can someone help?
