I don't know which year/model of Corvette that you are comparing with. But my 2001 740i Sport does not drive nor feel like my 1993 Corvette LT1 at all. The main reasons are as follows:

1. The 740i has a wheel base that is 20" longer than Corvette's. It makes a big difference when you turn the steering wheel. In a Corvette, I am sitting almost on top of the rear wheels. In a 740i, well, you know how it feels....

2. The power-to-weight ratios are drastically different for these two cars. I dyno'ed 362 ft-lb of torque at the rear wheels on the 'Vette. You can see what it will do to a car under 3,300 lbs.

So to answer the original question, I think the 740i will feel a bit sportier than the 740iL, due to its smaller physical dimensions. The 740i Sport is my daily commuter car and the 'Vette is my weekend warrior car. I like them both very much. :-)

740i drives and feels like a Corvette.
740iL drives and feels like a Corvette except it looks better doing it.
