2002 740i vs M5 (archive)

I have been discussing purchasing an M5 with several BMW dealers. Most are asking $10,000 over MSRP, and the wait is several months. I did speak with one dealer today that said no markup, but I would be number 8 on a waiting list, with an 8 to 12 month wait. I asked to be added to the list.

He did mention one thing that perked my interest. We were discussing the seven series, and whether a 2002 740i with the sport package would interest me. What got my interest was that he said he had heard that the 2002 740i would get a 30 - 40 hp increase over this year's model. My only complaint about the present 740i is that it needs a bit more power. I saw some photos of the 2002 seven series in an earlier message on this forum. I like the styling of the present models, but the new one looked fine as well.

Can anyone tell me what horsepower a 2002 740i would have? Also, any comments regarding getting one of these within a few months versus waiting a year for an M5?
