I seem to have the same problem going at low speed only, not necessarily over bumps. Can you tell me how to inspect the shock or strut mounts?

Paul:

Not sure exactly how to inspect the rubber parts, although the upper and lower control arm bushings should be visible underneath the car on the strut pieces that run from the center underneath the engine out to each wheel. The front shock mount assemblies are visible underneath the hood, atop the front wheel wells. A mechanic will need to determine if there is excessive wear. Noises going over bumps are a telltale sign of worn shock mounts.

Rubber parts are one of the first things to go on cars with some miles on them. Of course, a shop manual will give you more detail.
