It is correct that there is no BMW policy for loaner cars, only individual dealer policy. Fortunately, I found out when I had a 328i go in the shop, that my dealer provided loaners for their customers. My suggestion is to chalk up the oil leak as a fluke and tell your BMW dealer you will buy from someone else next time who has a better customer service policy on loaner cars---especially for buying a brand new $60k automobile.


My 2001 740i sport developed an oil leak at ~1200 miles. One of 2 steel-braided hoses (~0.75-1 inch diameter) that go from the engine to the filter housing (this itself blew me away...the fact that the filter is not mounted directly the engine...never seen that before...wonder why...perhaps to maintain engine balance?) developed a leak and had to be replaced. I consider myself lucky that the hose did not completely fail...I would have probably lost the engine. Considering that these are steel-braided hoses, I would imagine that there is some serious oil pressure in these lines.

It irritated me that the hose failed at just 1200 miles...:(

I had to leave the car at the dealer while the part came in...took 5 days. Dealer would not give me a loaner. BMWNA was pathetic in its customer service..."BMW does not have a loaner policy"...BMWNA, are you listening????????
