Depending upon the year, early V12s (OBDl) were modified by Dinan (twin turbo kit). As far as the OBDll motors, the more widely recommended firms are, Racing Dynamics, Dinan, Hamman, & Hartge.

Smaller companies offer some performance mods, but they are local in market base. I know of a shop here in Philadelphia, PA. called VAC Motorsports. They are not as big as Dinan, nor RD, however, having visited their facility several times, VAC is where I would recommend going. VAC is where my motor will be ported & polished. They will probably install the ESS Vortech supercharger for me as well as an external oil cooler. They have a CNC machine as well as the full compliment of machine shop equipment. They are well versed in BMW engines, and dyno tune them regularly. Last time I was there Tony handed me the light weight flywheel for a six speed gear box he had created from a blank. This flywheel is going into a V12/6 Speed 750il called "Das Boat" which is undergoing engine & trans conversion at a midwest race tuning firm.

The message here is sometimes the "grass roots guys" are the real "engineers" Sometimes firms like Dinan & RD are really nothing more than exhaust pipe salesmen. The place to start looking for V12 BMW mods is at the local BMWCCA chapter. Talk with the guys that do club racing. They will know the shops that know what the hell they are doing, and which are full of crap.

Good luck
Simeon
