On each side of the radio face is a small plastic "lid" that flips open to reveal a small screw on each side. I believe they are Torx, so you need to make sure you have that available. AFter you loosen the two screws the radio comes out. Remember that if you disconnect the radio you'll have to have the code input again afterwards. Not all dealers are willing to give up the code, and you may have to go to the dealer to have it set.

Thanks for the response Scott. A couple of more questions...
1) How do you pull out the receiver?
2) How long did it take to fix and how much did it cost?
Thanks again!
Mine did the same thing. The raido/tape player are completely independent from the CD player as far as one playing without the other. Once you remove the radio/tape player the CD player will not longer play. I sent mine back to Alpine to get it fixed. Downtown Radio in Denver is their repair center. 800-373-3539. Pull the radio out to make sure it is a Alpine. That was what was in my 97 740iL.
My stereo tuner seems to only work intermittenly. Some days it works, some days it doesn't, sometimes it works for only a few seconds. The interesting thing about it is that the CD player will work even though the tuner and tape deck won't. I'm not a technical person and I don't know anything about stereos but I was hoping to find out if anyone else has experienced this problem and if they have any recommendations. The dealership says that I should replace it with a referb unit(they want $600 for a referb!). Thanks.
