I'm guess you'd need an entire car to do the swap, as you possibly will need to transplant a lot of the electronics to make it work. In fact, I'm pretty sure the electronics would be the biggest challenge. I'm thought about this a lot too, and Shadowchaser and I have had some discussions on this, together with other past and present board members. I still think it would be cool as hell, but one must be aware of the potential complexity of this swap.

This coming year I will have some sort of major project, just haven't quite decided what. A street rod/custom with a BMW engine/tranny, or a killer E38? Wish I had money/time for both... ;)

Keep us posted if you find anything or get started on something.

I'm adding on to my post..

I knew about the V12....but it just is under powered...since I think it has about 350 hp, and the M5 has nearly 400 hp stock

Also from experiance of searching the net for salvage cars, I know within a few months some idiot will have rolled or spun his M5 into a pole...just give it time and I know there will be an affordable M5 engine for sale (I just dont know where). If you find a salvage car usually you have to buy the whole car, in that case just sell the rest. Also, an auto is a good idea and I would prefer it for drivablity, but it kills some of the power, and power is all I'm interested in for now.......but before I even think about doing any of this I need some cash and a newer 7er (I own an '82 733i now)....

I only wish I owned a 740, better yet a Sport version, but I'm wondering has anyone besides me considered(or wondered about) putting an M5 Engine, and possibly Trans. into a 740i Sport? and if its been done are there any pics and performance #?

Thanks,
~James
