Well, many people on this board know my love/hate relationship with BMW by now...so I'll just mention my thoughts about the S-class from Mercedes.

When that model first came out, I was excited to see it because the version it was replacing was such a monstrosity. It could only be a success, no matter what it looked like. I signed up for the preview site and did all that stuff.....

Well, at first I was quite surprised by the outward looks - maybe as you say, too much change to grasp in one go. But as time went by, it certainly made me think twice about replacing my BMW with a new BMW.

Subsequently, since I have had such a bad experience with my current E38 - the S-class is now at the top of my list, and way above anything else in the same group.

I'll be ordering a 2002 S430 with Silver on Black early next year (assuming the stock market does not continue to tank that long!).
