Big M, I had a cracked windshield and after checking around to several BMW dealers and getting quotes of $600~700 dollars. Someone told me about getting a used one (original), and since the car is a 98 740 I didn't see the need to buy a brand new one. I went down to the Hunts Point section in the Bronx and got one installed for $270 (210 windshield and 60 labor) took about 2 hours and I had it done about a month ago and I'm completely satisfied.
