Lance,

Here is a copy of my post from several weeks ago. My V1 detector has been fine wired like this. There has been some discussion about the reduced effective range of the detector when operating behind the coated 2001 740il front glass but I haven't noticed any reduction. I also have a V1 in my Volvo T5 wagon and they seem to operate the same.

Previous post follows:

Special thanks to Peter from my post on 7/19 including the GREAT pictures and info! There were some small differences from his car to mine if anyone is interested. The 2001 740il seems to run a lot of devices (including the sunroof) on low voltage signals. I used the same 3-pin connector that Peter recommended (on my car it fed the garage opener). The Green wire with the red stripe is 12v (the BMW schematic for the overhead console calls this Pin-1) and the solid brown wire (Pin-3) is ground. On my car the torx holding the sunroof motor did not produce ground so I spliced into the brown wire and all is fine. I was able to find a good ground by scratching the black paint covering everything in this area but found the brown wire to be an easy solution. Hope this helps someone. Ken
