Thanks Big-T, I think your procedure will work if you just carry a piece of plywood in your trunk. I just think it is a shame to have to carry extra parts and hope you have a flat on perfectly level ground in order to use the factory jack. A car that has foot stools should have a good jack. Where my wife had the flat there was nothing to put under the jack or behind the tires, that she could find. The jack kept sinking into the asphalt and this caused the car to fall off of the jack even with the brake on.

You should always have something to put under the jack, like a piece of wood or something like that. Also, if you engage the emergency brake and put blocks under the wheels, you shouldn't have to experience this problem. I have not had any trouble using the jack. HAving said that, I do agree that the design of the jack system is not optimal.

Does anybody have a good replacement solution for the factory jacks. They are a serious hazard. It almost killed my wife when the jack sunk into the asphalt, tilted and let the car fall. I can't say enough how bad they really are. If there was anything that needed a NTSB recall this would be it. I can't believe that BMW hasn't had multiple law suits over these. Let me know if you have replaced your jack with one that really works.
