I have the very same problems with the Timeport phone in my new 740i Sport as you described. It's my guess that these problems are partially due to the Timeport phone and in part to the mobile service provider.
I don't know whether there is anything BMW Service can or could have done. I doubt it and to illustrate that, here's another story.
Recently, I did have several messages in my voice mail box in the car. While I listening to them, the call was interrupted as I entered an area with poor coverage. As expected, the message were still there when I checked again. But when I wanted to listen to them, I couldn't. The only thing I could do was delete them.
My cellular service provider AT&T Wireless assured me that this is the "normal behavior". If you don't explicitly save a voice mail message it will be deleted, automatically. And ... it is not possible to change that, such that messages stay in your voice mail box until I explictly delete them.
I have an other cell phone and several other voice mail boxes. All of those keep voice messages until I specifically delete them. The only service which doesn't do that is AT&T Wireless. I ended up and shutting off voice message on the car phone.
Going back to the 740i Sport, I do like that car a whole lot. But there are several problems with all the electronic gear. More about that another time ... after I'm done reading all four manuals.
