I had a Yakima roof rack for my '99 740iL and used to mount two bikes--a tandem and a mountain bike. Worked great and was easy to mount/dismount to the roof. Never had a problem with scratches or marks on paint. You need four Q-towers, four Q4 clips, two 48" cross bars, four lock cores, and the mounts of your choice. Expect to pay about $500 for the entire setup for carying two bikes. Should be available at any good bike shop. If you purchase, find out who the best rack guy at the store is and have them do the initial setup per factory specs.

If you go to the Yakima site, select "Choose My Rack" and you can build the rack to the car.

My wife and I want to go on a bike trail trip.
