Sure seems like the damage to their reputation (what with the chance of getting to be known as crooks, stealers or rip off artists) would perhaps lead them to a either of two other options... refuse the small jobs and refer the costumer to someone else... or do the samll jobs at cost so as to earn the repeat business on the larger jobs. The good will generated by either of these two seems well worth the forgone profit on the small work. But then that would be a sensible, honest way of doing business...
...makes a whole lot of sense from a business perspective. By charging outragous prices for these quick things, they price themselves out of those mundane jobs that take up time but don't bring in money. What's left over is the more valuable business, bigger jobs.
Nonetheless - do not pay anything near that for battery replacement. Just go elsewhere. Check the sources mentioned in the other posts.

Please provide any brand name replacement, model # and cost for the battery - outside of the dealer. Dealer quoted me $340 installed which seemed to be high. I searched the archives and didn't see any replacements.
Thanks
