The new sockets themselves do not fit. Also the lightbulbs "pins" are slightly different.

It's a bit hacky, but... the old socket will fit the new and the old style light clusters if you snip the plastic lugs down a little. Careful not to take the entire lug off though.

And the bulbs with differently oriented pins will fit given some gentle, er, encouragement.

Random light out errors I get have always been due to slightly dodgy contacts. I guess the LKM is only using a very low voltage/current to check bulb integrity, and thus is more susceptible to a crappy connection then.
