Big-M, we can always trust you to bring some sanity to a discussion that's going nowhere ;)

To comment on your thoughts, I fully agree with you. The main point here is that the E60 and especially E65 are too close to production to change at this time. A couple years ago MAYBE it would have been possible to affect the design. There's a point of no return that no manufacturer can negotiate - unless they decide to postpone a new model introduction, which happens extremely rarely. Up to the "point of no return" though, there are opportunities for changing a design that does not appear to work out.

Mostly I think we agree on this ;)

Terje ! Hi......

I couldnt agree more to your post about the E65 discussions... however, one small thing I came across lately made a couple of turns in my my evaluation of "customer service" at bmw ag. Y

You are absolutely correct about the fact that design is approved of years ahead of time, but trying to steer the general design concept of bmw (or any other automotive co.) off its normal path is something not modern and has not been a surprise during the past 5 or 6 years. I have road & track in front of me (the february issue) and, to my amazement, i read an article stating that the Toyota Corolla has wasted well over $18million for design unacceptability of its lastest model (the rejected deisgn concept is posted on the page however, its vague to me). The reason for changing design is something I may not know the cause of... but teh fact tha it did happen makes me think that if a massive corporation like Toyota does this kinda thing, it wouldn't be shocking for BMW to undergo certain mods...

Again, before i write this i thought that the article could well be referring to something other than design, perhaps mechanical disapproval or nonconformity to certain standards, but tehn again... there comes the GMC Envoy 4x4... Its there in "4x4" on the march issue... what made me catch that article was my extreme interest in GMCs... (until Simeon made me hate 'em ...hehehehe... i guess it was a brainwash...) So that Envoy was re-designed TWO times (true, ti wasn't released yet, but the cost for that was crazy...) in the end, im sure you agree that no matter what a company goes thru the final product is what counts... people don't care how much effort it took...they simply see if it matches their expectations...

Im not sure whether i have conveyed my message in the right way... tried my best :) just my imagination...

Besttt,

M.
