Back in the old days (70's, 80's...), Lucas electrical systems had a terrible name.

Im Europe, we said "Lucas - Prince of Darkness"

I have had very good reliabilty with the range rover line.I am on my third one since 1996 and have found that it is a very hard to leave this brand . All though i have never experienced a used one you should no that pre 1999 was what they called a (GEM)system or better known as lucas electronics. Some time in the middle of 1999 the modle year bmw fitted this cars with (bosch) electronics witch was a huge improvement better performance and less electric problems . So if i was looking for a experienced range rover i would look for 1999 and half also buy from your land rover dealer he may have a extened warranty on all used range rovers. Beware though once you drive a range rover nothing else compares These vehicles are one of a kind they are like a english manor. The interior is like a jaguar and they love and beg to be taken off road .Engine and tranny are bullett prof.ALL i can say is buy one these vehicles they are no more maintence than a bmw and you will be treated much better on service. You wont be pulling you hair out my dealer will pick my car up witch is 130 miles away from me and leaves a car for me to drive try to get a bmw dealer to do that. And that is for as long as i own the car.
