Removed 14 quarts of oil from 96 740il (archive)

I took my 1996 BMW 740il to mylocal BMW dealer for an oil change and other service. The BMW mechanic replaced the oil filter and added 7 plus quarts of oil without draining the old oil. For some reason, I don't know why, I checked the dip stick before leaving the dealer lot and of course the dip stick whowed black oil and way over full. The dealer drained out 14 plus quarts of oil(I watched), replaced the filter and oil and said there was no damage. For some reason, I am not comforted by his statement. The engine was started at least 3 times and driven less than 3 miles. Is it likely that there is some damage and if so, to whom should I write? Thanks for the help.
