You really need a repair manual CD to see this real well but I will explain it to you as best as I can. You remove the top center vent grill that is above the center dash by prying it from the front. Remove screws and then pry out the frame that was around the grill. Disconnect wiring for the light and stratification motors. Remove screw and spacer from center of grill, below the frame. Close center vents and push up and insert (special tool) on each side on the bottom until the hooks unlatch. The special tool looks like a thin peice of metal about 2 inches wide. Do the same thing on the top while leaving in the tools on the bottom. Reach through the top opening and push the center vent out. Good luck.97 740iL
I recently tried to close one of the vents on the center dash, but it seemed stuck. I forced it a bit, and it clicked off track. now the vent is out of whack. Does anyone know how to remove the vent covers so I can try to fix this thing.
Also, it seems that since this happened, hot air comes out the floor vents when I turn them on. This happens even with the temp set at 60 deg, and the center temp knob turned to the cold setting.
