I just upgraded from 16" basket weaves to 18" M-Parallels, and went through the same thing.
The Wheel locks that BMW sells are reasonablay priced ($30), and seem pretty solid as far as wheel locks go.
They have another set with key locks on them, hoewver all I could think of was the lock would corrode during the winter months (salt and such) and eventually be rendered useless.

With my M-Parallels, the lugs are sufficently deep within the rim that they are generally not noticable unless you get right down at the wheel level and look, so the color for me was not a huge concern.
