Engine Failsafe Prog Message (archive)

I have a '96 750IL. About a week ago, I got a "Engine Failsafe Prog" message on the message display. I called my repair guy and he said to bring it in. He reset the computer and couldn't get the error message to reappear. I've had it back out on the road for a week now and it re-appeared tonight. Does anybody have any ideas?

When the repair guy plugged it into the computer to check the error codes, he said that there were several that pointed to the gas pedal and how it "told" the engine to give more or less gas to the engine.
