I found that I could get the filter screw top off with an old oil filter wrench I had around. It is an unusual wrench that has a loop of material like they make seat belts with. This is attached to the handle of the filter wrench. You out this around the filter cap and start twisting. As it turns, it tightens its grip on the cap and loosens it easily. I have had the wrench so many years I do not remmeber where I got it. I also did not have a big enough wrench to fit the top.
Haven't found a oil filter wrench that fits. I use an open end adjustable wrench. Someone said it was 1". I haven't measured it. The filter does just fit up into the cap. I put mine down into the housing and then screw on the cap. The reservior will not drain until you losen the cap. I losen the cap and then let it drain a minute before I take it off. It is less messy that way. Good luck. Sounds like expensive dogs.

I'll get this oil changed if it's the last thing i do...my dogs aren't helping...they chewed up 3 new oil filters...

questions:
1. is there an aftermarket oil filter wrench to fit that cap?
2. first time i took the cap off...didn't realize the filter was connected to the cap...does the filter just snap in to the cap? I was afraid to force it out...not knowing for sure?
3. the reservoir was full even though the car had been sitting, does that drain out if the oil is drained first?
I noticed after I took the filter and cap out ( a bit messy) that the reserve finally drained ...

thanks in advance
dave
