I bought a 740i S August 1st (I only put 800 miles on the car so far). The consencus is that you should wait until you have 1000 miles left on the factory warranty before you choose a "reputable" insurance carrier who is apt to stay in business for a long time. I have heard GE as one of those.
If you search the web, you will find many good articles about when to buy and who to use.

have a 2001 740 sport that i bought in june
14000km in last 3 months

any recommendations on an extended warranty plan
my dealer suggested easycare(totalcare plan)
