Yes, I had to do the same and there should also be a spring that you have to push in with the long teeth object. Sorry i forgot to mention that. If you can't find the spring that might be a problem because that is what pushes the holder back out when you want to use it.

My cupholder requires me to reach underneath on one holder and lift a piece up in order to close. It seems like I lost a spring or something. Any ideas?
