Have a similar problem on my 96 740IL. BMW has a technical service bulletin out on the problem. (I have a copy, but it's so poor it will not reproduce well). First check is to place masking tape on the outside, covering the gasket. Take a short ride. If the wind noise improves, you need to replace the gasket. The part is about $30--it's a redesigned gasket with teeth to improve the connection to the body. I had the gasket replaced but still have some wind noise.

If the wind noise doesn't improve, it's due to incorrect BMW windshield mounting during production. (If it improves some, could be the S/R gasket and windshield mounting are bad). BMW has a tool to measure the angle between the windshield and roof. If the windshield mounting depth is a little off, you'll get noise from the top center area. Only fix is to have the windshield remounted, but the small angle tool is critical to ensure correct depth. I don't recommend taking it to a shop that doesn't have the tool and experience in this procedure, or your wind noise will only be worse, and you'll be poorer to boot. Good luck--let us know how it goes.

I always had wind noise when my S/R shade was open, but now I hear wind noise even with the shade closed. Is it still the S/R gasket or is it something else? By the way, I have all four jack pads in place.
