Ok here goes some bashing on the M5 vs. 740i.

1. The M5 is more money.
2. The M5 is smaller.
3. The M5 requires shifting.
4. The M5 gets less mileage.
5. A "5" is lower on the BMW scale than a "7".

Hows that?

Now, would I trade an M5 for a 740i (E38 or new body)? Not in a million years!

The best bet then, if you can afford it, is to have both...
