You can pick up a BMW CD Changer for ~ $ 600 and install it in the trunk and your Amp will recognise it. Unfortunately none of the BMW CD players also play MP3's.
You cannot connect a regular CD Player/ Changer to the Amp becuse it uses a propritory coding and all the equipment sit on a Computer bus.

I'm looking for a MP3 player for my 740 as well. The clostest thing that I have found and am still waiting on the company to go production is the Phatnosie player, that's compatible to the BMW bus.
Will keep the board posted the day I get it installed.
