Stereo System Quality on E32 vs. E38?? (archive)

Does anyone else here have an E32 and an E38 to compare the quality of the stereo system?
I think the stock stereo in my 1990 750iL's sound a great deal better than the one in my 2000 750iL. The older one seems to have the speakers placed in much better locations, especially up front. In the 1990, when I turn the stereo on, especially when playing a CD, the sound just seems to come right to your head -- a very good and true stereo effect. In the 2000, I can distinctly tell the sound is coming from individual speakers. The speakers seem badly placed.

Anyone else notice this?
While I'm on the subject, why does it seem like the older car is also more responsive and quicker?
