The 7 Series "Features Operation Guide" that comes with the car states "Normally when the security system is armed, the tilt sensor sets off the alarm if the car is lifted by a tow truck or otherwise tilted." The Guide further goes on to explain how to deactivate this feature for use, when say, riding on a ferry, but still allowing activation of all other features of the Alarm system. (Press Lock 2 twice in rapid succession)
I am assuming since my 1995 has this feature, all E38's do.
