I owned an 1988 735i for four years before switching to a 1995 740i. I too think that the stereo was superior in the E32 series. Better balance and overall sound quality. The 740i has the DSP crap and the only advantage is the EQ which can tune some of the screech out. Also, the cruise control was FAR more user friendly and responsive. Other than that, the E38 is twice the car of the old model.
