New 740i owner (2001 model)

I was told that the seats and mirrors would adjust to positions used the last time a particular key was used but when my wife and I use our keys, nothing happens. We have entered our favored positions into the Memory buttons on the door but it would be nice to get the key-memory feature working if possible. Any ideas?
