I've got a 95 740 with a little over 100K miles, block has been replaced as has radiator; tires and brakes are new. The car drives perfectly and looks nearly new. By any reasonable person's standard, it's a "dream car." It meets my driving needs perfectly.

But I still keep thinking about trading it in on a somewhat newer (say maybe 98 or 99) with lower miles, maybe a warranty still in effect (like CPO).

Reason tells me that I'll be spending money (like maybe $10K) to get effectively the same car. Plus, my insurance and registration fees will go up. And I'll spend close to $3K just for taxes and title (assuming I pay around $30K).

Even if I get hit with an unexpected repair bill (even, heaven forbid, the tranny), I'd still be many dollars ahead just by keeping the 95.

So what do you guys think? Should I keep looking at ads, or should I convince myself that I've already got something that's as good as it gets and re-address the issue in a couple of years?

Trade it in! dont make the same mistakes I made when I thought I was saving by keeping my car in top shape! Trade it in and get something with a ligit warranty. My car received new parts and it was back and forth to the dealer almost every month. My car had excellance maintance and much more but the fucker kept on going back to the dealer for little things that added to a new car and the end of the year. I noticed once these cars hit over 60,000 miles little problems start to occur, why do u think BMW only warranties these cars at 50,000 miles?????? Do what i did and trade it in for a new car with less then 50,000 miles backed up by a BMW warranty, its the only safe way out! I KNOW I DID IT AND NOW I"M SAVING! GOOD LUCK!
