All years of E38 had a rather unfortunate incident affecting this issue. Turns out Mr. Bass was a weak personality, and had trouble with substance abuse. In the case of Mr. Bass it was tea that did him in. It was tea in the morning, tea in the evening, tea with sugar, and tea with cream - there was no stopping him. After some wild tea parties that resulted in some very embarrasing incidents of Mr. Bass streaking across the town square on Saturday around noon, he decided he could no longer take the humiliation. Sadly, Mr. Bass packed up, and tragically moved to Australia to start a new life with a career breeding wombats. He has not been "heard" from since (pun intended...).

If you're looking to make an upgrade there are several options, most of which are rather involved and pricey. The simplest is just to get the plug'n'play subwoofer from Bavarian Autosport (www.bavauto.com), which by far will give you the least hassle. More extensive upgrades can be a challenge because of the complexity of the electronics of the E38. You can look up the archives about audio upgrades, I know there were a number of posts a few weeks ago.

You can check my system out in the link below, but note that I have the non-DSP base system, which is much easier to modify. I hope some of our esteemed fellow board members will post some wisdom and experience on this as well. Good luck!

I have a 2001 740i. It is equipped with premium sound (standard), bu there isnt enough BASS! Wheres the bass at?
