got the "Check Brake Lights" warning after a couple of months. Then it mysteriously went away after a single occurence.
These are only warnings (electrical gremlins) and are not a matter of life safety so you can ignore them. (Just as long as you are not annoyed by it everytime you start your car.)

Like you, that was the first time I burned out a bulb.

Dealer's bulbs (ones made in Germany) will work the same as what you have. But they are more expensive. And avoid brass contacts.....
