I have a 2000 740iL equipped with the DSP "premium" sound system also. I added a couple Kenwood monoblock sub amps and a pair of Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch 2's in a bandpass box and, viola, I found the "BASS". Check it out below and let me know what you think.

The Infinity sub from Bavarian Autosport is probably the cheapest and easiest way to go for this car however.
