I believe it is a DIY.
1. Remove fan. (this is a left handed nut) I use a large screw driver and a hammer and tap it. This usually will loosen without any problems with one sharp blow. Then just spin the fan off clockwise.
2. Loosen the two or three tensioner bolts just behind the idler pulley. This should take the tension off of the belt. Note the belt configuration around the pulleys
3. Remove the idler pulley completely.
4. Install new belt.
5. Replace idler pulley.
6. Retension belt and tighten tensioner bolts.
Good luck.
I have a 98 740iL. The power steering drive belt broke while I was driving. The car has 57000 miles.
Is it a DIY job to replace the drive belt? Does anybody have a step by step instruction?
Thanks in advance!
